PODS®: advanced technology to stabilize proteins for in vivo delivery

Proteins are widely used to treat disease. But proteins often generate off-target toxicity. For example, 40% of patients receiving checkpoint inhibitors suffer severe adverse events. Better targeting of proteins is needed, both for localized and systemic applications.

PODS is a biodegradable sustained release technology for proteins. Using PODS, proteins are encased in a micron-scale crystalline protein matrix. This matrix slowly releases cargo over weeks and months following localized injection. These crystals are also taken up by mononuclear phagocytes which can deliver intravenously injected crystals to sites of diseases.

In this webinar, we will describe the use of this technology for:
- Delivering a protein survival agent for implanted cells
- Delivering proteins for localized tissue regeneration
- Obtaining efficacy in cancer therapy with sub-toxic protein serum levels

Michael is a research scientist who happens to be leading a small biotech company. His research journey started with cancer genomics and is now focused on protein delivery with a particular interest in cancer therapeutics. He spent 15 years of his career in Japan, 12 years of this working for large Japanese and US multinational companies. Michael has helped guide the development of PODS technology for the in-vivo delivery of proteins.
